CUSTOMER (Australian): Hello. I’ll be visiting Sydney for a real estate convention and I need to rent a car for a few days while I’m there.
RECEPTIONIST: I’d be happy to help with you that. What date will you need a car?
CUSTOMER: October 3rd through October 6th.
RECEPTIONIST: OK. What type of car are you looking for?
CUSTOMER: I just need something small that I can use around the city.
RECEPTIONIST: I have an economy car on special for $12 per day. Normally it costs $22 per day. I also have a sports car available for $33 per day. We also offer sports utility vehicles and vans for a higher price.
CUSTOMER: The economy car sounds good.
RECEPTIONIST: How many drivers will be using the car?
CUSTOMER: Only one. Is it possible to add additional drivers if I need to?
RECEPTIONIST: Yes, it’s possible, but we need to know before you actually pick up the car, because we need to check the driver’s license and insurance for each driver.
CUSTOMER: I see. There’s a slight chance that a co-worker will be coming along with me to the conference, and we might share the car.
RECEPTIONIST: No problem. If he decides to come along, then just make sure he comes to pick up the rental car with you so that we can list him as a driver. If not, he’s not legally allowed to drive the car.
CUSTOMER: OK, thank you for letting me know.
RECEPTIONIST: Would you like to purchase additional car insurance? We offer collision and theft insurance so that in the case of either an accident or a car theft, you wouldn’t be financially responsible.
CUSTOMER: How much does that cost?
RECEPTIONIST: The insurance would be an additional $10 per day.
CUSTOMER: Hmmm . . . I don’t think so. I’ll just take the car.
RECEPTIONIST: Sounds good. Now, where will you picking up the car? We have a rental location at the airport and another one in downtown Sydney.
CUSTOMER: The airport would be perfect.
RECEPTIONIST: When do you arrive?
CUSTOMER: I will arrive on the morning of October 3rd. My flight gets in at 10:03AM.
RECEPTIONIST: OK. We will hold a car for you until 5:00PM on the 3rd. If your arrival time changes, or you don’t think you’ll be able to get here by 5:00PM, please call and let us know, otherwise you might lose your reservation. What name and phone number should I put the reservation under?
CUSTOMER: Ava Morely. M-O-R-E-L-Y. 3 555 9085.
RECEPTIONIST: Got it, thank you. Will you be returning the car at the airport location as well?
CUSTOMER: Yes. My departure flight on the 6th is at 4:35PM. So, I’ll probably get the car back by about 2:00 or 2:30, I reckon.
RECEPTIONIST: That won’t be a problem. If you return the car after 5:00PM then you will be charged for an additional day at the regular rental price, so be sure to get it back on-time. Again, if your flight time or date changes, please call to let us know ahead of time.
CUSTOMER: Sure. How much will it cost in total?
RECEPTIONIST: Let me see . . . after taxes and fees, the total cost is going to be $62.75. When you arrive to pick up the car, the car agent at the desk will enter your credit card information. An initial amount of $250 will be charged to your account. Once the car is returned, we will refund that money after taking out the $62.75. Also, don’t forget to return the car with a full tank of gas. If the tank isn’t full, we charge $6.00 per gallon to fill it up.
CUSTOMER: No problem. If anything changes, I’ll be sure to call you and let you know.
