올해 인문사회계 박사로 UC Davis 어드미션을 받았는데요.
애초에 지원할 때 학교 자체에 대한 정보는 별로 없었지만
그 학교에 있는 세 명의 교수가 너무 좋고 저랑 연구 주제도 아주 잘 맞는 데다가
과 분위기가 참 좋더라구요.
아직 다른 학교들은 결과가 하나도 안 나서 기다리는 중인데
그 사이에 이 학교에 대해서 좀 많이 알고 싶어서 찾아보는 중입니다.
미국 내에서는 인지도가 꽤 좋아요.
UC계열은 다 좋다..라는 인식이 있는 것도 같은데
UC버클리와 UCLA에 가려져서 과소평가 되고 있다는 평이 많더라구요.
이 학교가 농대(원래 UC버클리의 농대에서 출발)와 농경제, 식품영양학과 등으로 유명한 건 압니다.
저는 이런 쪽은 아니고 인문사회계열인데 과라기보다는 협동과정..같은 전공이라서
랭킹사이트에서도 집계가 잘 안되구요.
제가 찾아본 결과 같은 전공에서 교수 연구성과로 3위를 한 적이 있더군요. (하버드 9위)
홈피에 있는 공식적인 랭킹은 아래와 같은 것들이 있네요.
제가 현재 캘리포니아에 있으면서 이 학교에 대해 느끼는 것,
미국인들이 생각하는 관점들을 잘 들어보니
UC Davis 굉장히 좋은 학교인데 UCB와 UCLA의 빛에 가려져서
굉장히 과소평가 받고 있는 측면이 있다,
재학생들의 만족도가 높은 학교이다..라는 평이 많더라구요.
저 역시도, 제가 지원한 전공만 봤을 때 상당히 좋은 프로그램이고(투어했음) 분위기 너무 좋은데
왜 어플라이나 어드미션 포스팅 등에서는 그다지 눈에 띄게 보이질 않는지.. 그게 궁금하더라구요.
UC가 워낙 펀딩상황이 외국인들에겐 불리하고 또 잘 뽑지 않는 편이라서
국내에서는 저 위의 UC들만큼 인지도가 없는 것 같은데, 이 학교 인지도 어떤가요?
학부 말고 대학원이요. 물론 과마다 다른 건 당연하겠지만요.
혹시 현재 재학중이신 분 계시면, 다니시면서 학교에 대해 새롭게 느끼게 된 점이나...
