thank you for your input 123. hope you are having a great time for your thanksgiving holidays.
I'm gonna mix up English and Korean a little, hope you (or any other reader) don't mind.
first let me supply some more details mainly regarding myself and my idea of 'having dual, or even more degrees.'
= I am BA and PhD from science field. once considered going for md, but other than vague images and information, I do not want to be an MD very much. My personality is also more apt for working in a lab or reading literature rather than working with patients and varied personnel in stressful settings. In Korea being a science PhD has never been very rewarding but it looks like the situation's not gonna improve during my lifetime. So I am considering going to a US professional graduate school and later settling down there, hopefully having an advantage of being dual degreeed.
I also have background of having high school to undergraduate education in English speaking countries, including US. I guess my English is similar to yours or a bit below. (not spoken for a while now)
= my idea of 'a little bit higher income than middle class' in USA was from 75k to 100k. I am not saying that I set my mind absolutely at this.
in my opinion 100k to 150k would be closer to upper middle. is this realistic enough for your point of view? but then if one has at least one of the degrees mentioned above, I guess he/she'd agree with me about 75k-100k range. (Last time I was in US it was before 2008. so please feel free to correct me or comment if you have other ideas.)
I don't have any family to support nor have plan to get married in near future. (even if I do get married, my spending pattern will not be that of typical koreans or korean americans who will concentrate all the resources (time, money and energy) into raising children.) So I presume this 'around 80k' shall be ok to support me alone and prepare for the future, ie medical expenses, pension, funds or savings, possibility of retiring and residing in Seoul, etc.
= I did read the article you linked, and it does look grim. I bet law grads feel way stronger about it than I do right now. understand better that law grad who mentioned sueing(??) his own law school.
One person (US native) I actually know went to law school (not that prestigious) in 05 or 06 and I heard she graduated all right in 08 or 09. but had no news regarding her whereabouts then.
well, I should just say I know some non JDs who earn more. And 75k-100k was what I gathered from my contacts in US and my own experience, all non JDs. again, thanks for giving me some evidence based info.
I was speaking of public sector related jobs, if any, when I mentioned the statement above. I'd appreciate it very much if you can give me any info regarding this field.

additional questions after reading your input:
it's funny that md/jds do not look more positive than md/mbas. how come?
and would it be similar for phd/jds and phd/mbas?
I agree that dual, or plus degrees do not look practical, because one can do only one job at a time, but maybe the chances of being hired would increase than JD alone, if not significant increase in salary? e.g. the chances of being recruited from hospitals would increase for an md/jd compared to a jd.
